Réponse ce matin de mon copain Vernon BROU.
Avant tout, je précise que je ne lui ai envoyé que la photo du profil. Donc il croit voir une plaque sur la tête de l'insecte, et supose un reste de chrysalide (cela arrive très souvent, j'ai des dizaines de Sphingidae avec une plaque frontale . En fait en vue face, on voit que ça n'est que l'ombre, mais Vernon n'avait pas cette photo. Il arrive à une determination très satisfaisante je pense, et il les connait très bien.

I don’t believe your specimen image is any of those five.

This very old publication addresses all of the known Eudocima species occurring in India as of 1880. Nothing more recent has ever been published concerning Eudocima of India. There are plates of hand drawn specimens in color at the end of the publication.

I have no idea what the large brown front area is on your specimen, unless it is a piece of pupa shell stuck on the specimen.

I think your specimen is only a ♂ Eudocima phalonia (Linnaeus), an extremely common pan global pest species in many areas of India, Africa, Viet Nam, Sri Lanka, Japan, Australia, Hawaii, and throughout the South Pacific. Note also, there are several undescribed species hiding under the name E. phalonia. My pinned specimen illustrated is E. phalonia from Thailand. You will note all of the lines of the forewings match on these two specimens.

Non, ça doit plutôt être dû aux pesticides qui polluent les eaux minérales ...
